Hey Stephen happy new year! 1 more hour for us here in PST timezone.
You are right about I know more from my work exp than what the school can teach me in terms of UX.
The master serves 3 purposes for me:
1. I want to work in Canada but getting a job there without a PR is extremely difficult. A graduate student will make getting a PR and finding a job much easier down the line.
2. It is a big move for my wife and I, we want to do a "Soft-landing" to experience the country without the pressure of working/finding a job. We have saved up enough for that, so it is nice to take a career break after working 9 years professionally.
3. The masters I took is a mixture of game design, project management and UX. As you know, I am a gamer as well, so learning Game design was actually very fun for me and I also get to design some game prototypes. Strategically there are a few game studio here as well so that give me things to talk about during interviews for those studios.
